Estonia

The Estonian flag's history dates back to 1881 when it was first created as a symbol of the Estonian Students' Society at the University of Tartu. On November 21, 1918, following Estonia's independence declaration, the blue-black-white tricolor was officially adopted as the national flag. However, during Soviet occupation (1940-1991), the flag was banned.
On August 7, 1990, as Estonia moved towards restoring independence, the historic tricolor was readopted. The flag gained renewed significance on August 20, 1991, when Estonia formally regained independence. Today, the flag remains a powerful symbol of Estonian sovereignty and cultural identity.
