Belgium
The Belgian flag, with its distinctive black, yellow, and red vertical stripes, was officially adopted on January 23, 1831, shortly after Belgium gained independence from the Netherlands in 1830. These colors first appeared during the Brabant Revolution of 1789-1790. The design was inspired by the coat of arms of the Duchy of Brabant. Initially, the stripes were horizontal, but on October 12, 1831, they were changed to vertical to distinguish the flag from the Dutch flag.
